What do Libya, Iran, Cuba, Russia and Pakistan All Have in Common? Why of course! At the United Nations, they’ve all been picked to lead the preparations for the UN’s “Durban Review” mega-conference against “racism,” scheduled for sometime in 2009. They all have seats on the 20-member preparatory committee which has just begun a two-week meeting in Geneva to plan for this Durban II pow-wow —which now looms as a reprise of the anti-democratic, anti-Semitic, anti-Israel, anti-American 2001 conference that was Durban I. This round, Libya is chairing the preparations. Cuba gets to send not one, but two officials to the planning party; one to plan and the other to act as rapporteur. From a number of democracies, including Canada, the U.S. and Israel, there has been enough protest over this farce so that even UN Human Rights Commissioner Louise Arbour has interrupted her grieving over the 2007 execution of Saddam Hussein to note that there are concerns surrounding Durban II “which if not squarely confronted and resolved, may ultimately jeopardize a successful outcome of the process.” Give us a break, Louise. The “process” here has patently nothing - zip, zero, nada — to do with fighting racism. It has everything to do with assorted thug states draping themselves in the mantle of the UN and abusing the vocabulary of genuine human rights, the better to attack democratic societies — starting with Israel and proceeding to the rest of the hit list maintained by the thugocracies of Libya, Iran, Cuba & Co. Thanks to UN sponsorship, their perverted “process” is thriving. Durban II is a gross insult to anyone genuinely fighting racism. In the propaganda wars of the UN, this conference is a coup for the club of thugs. Would it be too much to ask that as plans roll ahead for the “Durban Review Conference” — as it is called —the U.S. State Department land a counter-punch on the side of truth, human dignity and genuine human rights? How about America introducing a resolution at the UN to give this conference and its preparatory committee an honest name — say, “Thugs R Us” —? No doubt the UN would vote that down. But even that might just bring some much-needed clarity to this latest UN “process.” Comments (14)J.D. Silentio :Marsouin :I remember Durban I where Mugabe of Zimbabwe was a featured speaker. We was greeted with enormous applause when he accused white Western racism for the problems plaguing black Africa. The BBC correspondent covering the event was in rapture of Mugabe. J.J. Sefton :I suppose they are trying to make up for their horrible sin - the 1947 vote establishing Israel in the first place. And a Palestinian state as well, but that's an inconvenient truth. David Gueiros Sr :It has already been suggested, and I fully endorse it: Send the UN headquartes to Haiti. That's the proper place for it. Also, the USA should stop funding these jerks, and let them search for their own funds from those who fund terrorism today. That is also the proper source of funding for them. B Dubya :The UN was long ago hijacked from its original charter and has become a useful tool of totalitarians, charlatans, thugs, and murderers. Its permanently entrenched apparatchiks have since secumbed to the overriding desire to rule the entire planet through its office. The United States cannot, in good concience and with the ain of preserving liberty in at least this nation, remain a member of the UN in the present configuration. The fact that this nation provides the lion's share of funding and some of the most expensive real estate on the planet for these grifters to base their nefarious ops out of is intolerable. Kick the UN off of US soil. Stop funding it. NEVER, I say again, NEVER surrender command of American troops to these gutless pukes. Ron Kean :Too bad Uday and Quisay were shot in the john. They could have been speakers. If Pol Pot is still alive, he can do the halftime show. I asked my senator Jim Talent if he could pull the plug on the UN and he said he'd advocate a gathering of Democracies like McCain has said. But Claire McCaskill beat him and I have a problem with Democrats. There should be a league of democracies and cities from all over the world should bid on the headquarters. They should pull the plug on the UN. If New York survived 9/11, it should survive booting those crooks. Ken Hahn :Why are we still in the UN? M. Simon :Being able to veto any actual action by that mob is worth the price of admission. tyree :Keep the UN where it is. We can watch them better there. Reduce our "contribution" to their budget to be proportional with our share of the international GDP. They extra money we send them certainly doesn't buy any good will. Seerak :The “process” here has patently nothing - zip, zero, nada — to do with fighting racism. Nothing the Left labels "anti-racist" has anything to do with fighting racism. Rather the opposite, actually. Michael Lonie :The only reason for staying in the UN is to use our Security Council veto against any resolutions adverse to us or our friends. There are too many idiots out there who think a resolution from this corrupt, racist, totalitarian supporting, murderer enabling organization gives some proposal the imprimatur of moral worth. In fact, as others have pointed out above, the exact opposite is much closer to the truth. I would advocate that we reduce our monetary contribution to the proportion that the US population is as a percentage of the world population, that is about 5 percent. We currently pay about 22 percent of the regular budget, which is about our GDP proportion. Let the racists, totalitarians, thugs, grifters, and murderers pay the rest, if they are so keen on it. We can't kick them out under international law, because of a ratified treaty, and the UN owns the property at Turtle Bay. But if the UN HQ, bureaucracy, and everybody else wanted to voluntarily leave our shores, I will happily wish them bon voyage, and may they run into an iceberg far enough away from land so that no help can get to them in time for rescue. Rich Rostrom :Pakistan ought to be embarrassed by such company. Pakistan, after all, had real elections a few months back (the government party lost). Not something Castro, Putin, or the Ayatollahs have to worry about. Stacy Shoemaker :We in the West have given over the tools of justice to those who use them against us, we can take them back any time we want, the only thing stopping us from doing just that is ourselves. njcommuter :We could also let NYC enforce parking and traffic laws on the UN's bureaucrats. Better yet, why not have the U.S. congress vote to place an indefinite hold on any and all U.S. funds going to the UN (even those slated for "humanitarian" projects) until the UN answers for this and its myriad other failures and corruption?
That would certianly have my vote...
